GOP lawmakers push for tougher penalties in attacks on DCFS workers

A group of Republican lawmakers on Thursday urged the Senate to take up a bill that increases the penalties for attacks on state social workers employed by the Department of Children and Family Services. The bill passed the House unanimously earlier this session, but has stalled in the Senate.

Community-based child welfare providers are asking the state for $30.7 million in emergency funding to combat low wages, high employee turnover rates and inadequate resources which have caused some of them to cut programs or even close.
